Floating the Kinni by canoe or kayak
The Kinnickinnic River is an outstanding paddling resource. From River Falls to the St. Croix River, the river slices into a deep gorge-like feature known as the Kinni Canyon. The Canyon has only one road crossing about 8 miles or 3 hours below the City. Wildlife abounds in this remote feeling sanctuary. Nesting eagles, herons, waterfowl, deer, beaver, mink, and the rumored cougar are present. Birding in this stretch of the river can be fantastic. The scenery is outstanding on this stretch of river with soaring cliffs, towering pines, and swift water. As you venture further down the river from the city, springs and weeping cliffs create a vibrant green carpet of ferns, mosses and wildflowers in an almost fairly-like landscape. Information on the resources of the Kinnickinnic River can be found at the Kinnickinnic River Land Trust. Call them at 715-425-5738 or visit their website www.kinniriver.org. Canoe and kayak rental and outfitting can be found at the Kinni Creek Outfitters phone number (715-425-7378) or website www.kinnicreek.com |
