Kansas City Chiefs Summer Training Camp

We miss the Chiefs...they no longer train in River Falls during the summer. They train in Missouri!

Kansas City ChiefsFor roughly three weeks every summer since 1991, the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs have made their home in River Falls.

Weather conditions, outstanding practice facilities and support of the local community make River Falls the perfect place to begin a run to the Super Bowl.

When the team picked UW-River Falls' Ramer Sports Complex as the site of its summer training camp in 1991, they joined four other NFL teams in what has become known as the "Cheese League," an informal alignment of professional teams that practice in the area and often scrimmage together. Along with the Green Bay Packers (De Pere), Chicago Bears (Platteville), New Orleans Saints (La Crosse) and Minnesota Vikings (Mankato, MN.), the Chiefs give area visitors and residents the chance to get a close-up view of hard-hitting NFL action.

Since the first summer camp, some of the finest professional football players in the league, such as Joe Montana, Derrick Thomas, Neil Smith and Marcus Allen have made their way to River Falls.

Each Chiefs' practice is open to the public, giving visitors the chance to see what a real NFL workout is like. Youngsters gather after every practice in a roped-off area near the practice fields with hopes of getting a player to sign a trading card, banner, notebook page or helmet.

During their stay in River Falls, players and coaches are often seen strolling through downtown or in some of the local stores, restaurants and bars.
